The Literacy Specialist is integral to advancing literacy education aligned with the school's guidelines and evidence-based research. In the role of a qualified and endorsed school-based literacy coach, this professional collaborates directly with teachers, aiming to enhance literacy instruction and elevate student achievement. Adhering to S.C. Code § 59-155-180(C), the Literacy Specialist employs a multifaceted approach to develop the capacity of practicing professionals in fostering proficient readers among children and adolescents. Responsibilities encompass serving as a stable resource for professional development, modeling effective instructional strategies in weekly sessions for teachers, conducting study groups, providing individualized support, and engaging in coaching and mentoring activities. The Literacy Specialist also focuses on ensuring the faithful implementation of research-based reading programs, collaborating with teachers across content areas and elective subjects. Playing a pivotal role in prioritizing impactful activities, the Literacy Specialist emphasizes coaching and mentoring in classrooms, contributing to leading and supporting reading leadership teams. The absolute focus of educators employed by Fine Arts Preparatory School is on teaching and learning. Innovative and experiential lessons are expected, in addition to a loving and nurturing personality. We believe that every student is gifted and will treat each as such. Some evening and weekend duties may be required.
Create innovative strategies to deliver content while providing a safe, nourishing, and enriching.
Collaborate directly with teachers as a stable resource for professional learning.
Conduct weekly sessions to model effective instructional strategies for teachers in both whole and small groups.
Collaboratively plan with content area and grade level team weekly.
Train teachers in data analysis for differentiated instruction.
Engage in coaching and mentoring activities to support professional growth.
Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the assigned content area(s) and any related standards.
Provide valid and reliable data as it relates to student achievement and growth.
Provide individualized support to teachers.
Facilitate study groups to promote collaborative learning among educators.
Ensure the faithful implementation of research-based reading, literacy, and handwriting programs.
Collaborate with teachers across content areas and elective subjects within the school.
Ensure positive child guidance techniques by re-directing the child with patience and respect.
Prioritize activities that maximize impact on student achievement, with a primary focus on coaching and mentoring in classrooms.
Contribute to leading and supporting reading leadership teams.
Utilize creative teaching methods that engage student participation and increase overall learning success.
Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
Maintain accurate records, forms, and files.
Remain centered on the school's mission and vision.
Performs additional duties as may be assigned by the direct Supervisor and other school administrators.

Starting in Kindergarten, the school allows matriculation through high school, offering programming that leads to a South Carolina high school diploma.
