The Choral Music Educator at Fine Arts Preparatory School is responsible for delivering comprehensive choral music education to students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. This role encompasses general music instruction, discipline-specific exploratory courses in music theory, performance, and history, as well as leading and nurturing a competitive arts ensemble. The Choral Music Educator fosters a deep appreciation for music, develops students' vocal skills, and prepares them for performances and competitions.
Develop and deliver general music lessons aligned with educational standards for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, and musical notation. Cultivate students' singing abilities, including pitch accuracy, vocal control, and ensemble singing.
Select and teach a diverse range of choral repertoire, including classical, contemporary, and multicultural pieces. Provide vocal training and coaching to students, emphasizing proper vocal technique, diction, and expression. Offer discipline-specific exploratory courses in music theory, covering topics such as notation, harmony, and composition.Teach courses in music history, exploring various musical eras, genres, and influential composers.
Lead and direct a competitive choral ensemble, preparing students for performances, competitions, and showcases. Conduct regular rehearsals, fostering teamwork, discipline, and artistic growth among ensemble members. Organize and coordinate choral performances, concerts, and competitions, both within the school and in the community. Create an engaging and inclusive classroom environment that supports creativity, collaboration, and musical exploration.
Establish clear classroom expectations, promote discipline, teamwork, and respect among students. Evaluate and assess student progress through performances, assignments, quizzes, and constructive feedback. Maintain open and proactive communication with parents and guardians, sharing updates on students' progress, performances, and any concerns or opportunities for improvement. Stay current with music education trends and practices, attend workshops, conferences, and engage in professional development to enhance teaching skills.
Prior experience as a choral music educator, with a strong background in choral conducting and ensemble leadership.
Proficiency in vocal coaching, music theory, music history, and general music education.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
Creativity, innovation, and a passion for fostering a love of music in students.
Interaction with students, parents, fellow educators, and school administrators is fundamental to this role.
Work hours may include evenings and weekends, especially during rehearsals, performances, and competitions.
Additional duties as assigned by school administration.
