The Dance and Creative Movement Instructor at Fine Arts Preparatory School is responsible for teaching dance and creative movement classes to students in grades K-12. This role focuses on aligning curriculum and instruction with South Carolina Standards while fostering creativity, self-expression, and a deep appreciation for the art of dance.
Design and deliver dance and creative movement lessons that align with South Carolina Standards, ensuring that students meet the specified learning objectives. Tailor instruction to meet the developmental needs and skill levels of students across various grade levels, from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Teach a range of dance styles, including but not limited to ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, and cultural dance forms. Encourage students to explore their creativity and self-expression through movement, improvisation, and choreography.
Create a safe and inspiring dance studio environment that supports student learning, practice, and performance. Establish and communicate clear classroom expectations, promoting discipline, teamwork, and respect among students. Organize and coordinate dance recitals, performances, and showcases to provide students with opportunities to showcase their talent and hard work. Evaluate and assess student progress through regular assessments, feedback, and performance evaluations.
Maintain open and proactive communication with parents and guardians, sharing updates on students' progress, performance events, and any concerns or opportunities for improvement. Stay current with dance education trends and practices, attend workshops and conferences, and engage in professional development to enhance teaching skills.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Dance, Dance Education, or a related field. Master's degree or state certification in Dance Education is a plus.
Prior experience as a dance instructor, preferably with experience teaching a wide range of dance styles and age groups, including K-12.
Proficient knowledge of dance techniques, choreography, and performance.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
Familiarity with South Carolina Standards for dance education.
Creative and innovative teaching approach that fosters a love of dance and encourages artistic exploration.
Work hours may include evenings and weekends, especially during rehearsals and performance events.
Interaction with students, parents, fellow educators, and school administrators is essential for this role.
