The Drama and Theatrical Arts Teacher at Fine Arts Preparatory School is responsible for instructing students in drama and theatrical arts, fostering creativity, self-expression, and a deep appreciation for the performing arts.
Develop and deliver drama and theatrical arts lessons that align with educational standards, ensuring that students meet the specified learning objectives. Teach acting techniques, improvisation, character development, stage presence, and vocal projection to students of varying age groups and skill levels. Guide students in script analysis, interpretation, and understanding of dramatic literature. Lead students in acting, blocking, and directing scenes and plays for school productions.
Organize and oversee school theatrical productions, including auditions, casting, rehearsals, set design, costume coordination, and technical aspects of the performances. Provide coaching and training to students participating in school plays, ensuring their preparedness for stage performances. Establish a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and a passion for the performing arts. Set clear classroom expectations, promote discipline, teamwork, and respect among students.
Assess and evaluate student progress through performances, assignments, projects, and constructive feedback. Maintain open and proactive communication with parents and guardians, sharing updates on students' progress, performance events, and any concerns or opportunities for improvement. Stay current with drama and theatrical arts education trends and practices, attend workshops, conferences, and engage in professional development to enhance teaching skills.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Drama, Theater Arts, or a related field. Master's degree or state certification in Drama Education is a plus.
Prior experience as a drama and theatrical arts teacher, preferably with experience teaching drama to students of varying age groups.
Proficiency in acting techniques, script analysis, and theatrical production.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
Creativity, innovation, and a passion for fostering a love of drama and theater in students.
Work hours may include evenings and weekends, particularly during rehearsals and theatrical productions.
Interaction with students, parents, fellow educators, and school administrators is essential for this role.
